ESTHELLA PROVAS is the President and Principal Art Advisor of Esthella Provas & Associates (EPA), internationally recognized as one of the top art advisors in the field. For over two decades, she has excelled in roles spanning the commercial, academic, and museum sectors. Provas was instrumental in founding the Jumex Foundation and building the renowned Jumex Collection in Mexico City, the largest private contemporary art collection in Latin America, owned by prolific art collector Eugenio López Alonso. She continues to work closely with Mr. López, helping to acquire significant works and contributing to key exhibitions at the Jumex Museum, including Andy Warhol: Dark Star (June–Sept 2017), Learning to Read with John Baldessari (Nov 2017–Apr 2018), and Appearance Stripped Bare: Desire and the Object in the Work of Marcel Duchamp and Jeff Koons (May–Sept 2019).
From 1993 to 2005, Provas served as the Director and Co-owner of Chac Mool Contemporary Art Gallery in Los Angeles, in partnership with Mr. López. She also played a key role in the Getty’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA initiative, a major exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles (Sept 2017–Jan 2018). For this, she co-curated Kohn Gallery’s acclaimed exhibition Chingaderas Sofisticadas (Sept–Nov 2017), featuring nine prominent artists from Guadalajara, Mexico. Most recently, she curated Human Nature (2024) at OMR Gallery in Los Angeles, which included works by Alicja Kwade, Eduardo Sarabia, Superflex, and others, and Materiality and Language: Explorations in Form and Meaning (2024) at Kotaro Nukaga gallery in Tokyo, Japan, featuring artists such as Rirkrit Tiravanija, Stefan Brüggemann, and Jose Dávila.
In both 2023 and 2024, ARTnews named her company, Esthella Provas & Associates, one of the top art advisories in the world, following consultations with experts in the field, including members of the Association of Professional Art Advisors. In 2024, she was also prominently featured in Art Basel Magazine, highlighting her extensive contributions to the art world.
A co-founder of the Latin American International Art Council for MOCA LA, Provas serves as a Development Consultant for LACMA’s Latin American Initiatives and is a member of both the Modern and Contemporary Art Council and the Director’s Circle. She is also the Chair of LA><Art and a founding member of LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division).
In addition to her art world achievements, Provas has served on the boards of the American Cancer Society and Project Angel Food, where she founded the Angel Art auction, held annually at Creative Artists Agency to benefit Project Angel Food. Since 2018, she has also served as the Chair of the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) Mexico.
Through her leadership and expertise, Provas has played pivotal roles in shaping contemporary art, philanthropy, and institutional collaborations across the globe.
